PICTURE SPECIAL: Horsin’ Around with a mini pony at Wild West Day in Wick care home

Music, mirth and a special visit from a tiny horse called Mr Bojangles delighted Seaview care home residents at a Wild West-themed event.

A Wild West Day was held on Friday, February 28 at Seaview House Care Home in Wick which was transformed thanks to head of activities Caz McLauchlan.

Seaview had extended an invitation to its sister care home in Thurso, Pentland View Care Home, to join in the fun. Many residents from both homes knew one another, sparking fond reminiscences of the past.

Caz said: “The morning was filled with the sounds of laughter and country tunes from cowboy musical talent Addie Harper.

“Addie’s performance had everyone tapping their feet, even dancing.”

No Wild West day would be complete without a hearty meal, and the kitchen staff did not disappoint. Residents enjoyed a themed lunch featuring a variety of delicious dishes, including ‘Gold Miner’s Soup’, ‘Cowboy Casserole’, ‘Ranch Pork’, and the delectable dessert of ‘Campfire Cobbler’.

“In the afternoon, the excitement continued with a visit from the one and only Mr Bojangles, a handsome, talented pony, along with his owner and trainer, the wonderful Natalie Oag from Horsin’ Around stables at Lyth,” added Caz.

The residents were thrilled to meet Mr Bojangles up close, feeding him and watching in awe as he performed his tricks. The display was a highlight of the day, bringing smiles to everyone’s faces.

“It was an honour and a pleasure to take a rescue pony that had been saved from slaughter and now his journey has ended up making people smile and laugh,” said Natalie.

“Caz is a breath of fresh air and brings great events to the residents. I also had help from Maia Bateman on the day who is my assistant at Horsin’ Around.”

Caz said: “All in all, the Wild West Day at Seaview was a resounding success, filled with joy, nostalgia, and plenty of fun. It was a reminder that sometimes, the best way to enjoy life is simply to embrace the spirit of adventure and create lasting memories with friends old and new.”
