Paid trainee opportunities at Lyth Arts Centre
Lyth Arts Centre (LAC) is looking for two creative young people (aged 18–25) to join its Young Music Makers programme as trainees from November 2025 to April 2026.
This is a paid opportunity (£12.60 per hour) designed to help young people kickstart a career in music or the creative industries. Over six months, the trainees will get hands-on experience supporting professional musicians to deliver fun, inspiring workshops for children and young people – from early years through to teens.
They will also get the chance to shadow sound engineers, lighting designers and event producers, and work with the LAC team to design their own personal training plan, with time and budget set aside for their professional development.
There’s no need for previous experience, just a genuine enthusiasm for music and creativity, and a willingness to learn.
“This is a brilliant opportunity for young people in Caithness who are excited about music, performance and creativity,” says Helen Moore, participation and engagement manager at Lyth Arts Centre. “We’ll support our trainees to build confidence, gain skills and explore what a creative career could look like right here in Caithness.”
Each trainee will work around 136 hours over six months (roughly 5½ hours per week), on a flexible basis that fits around study or part-time work.
Applications close at midnight on Sunday, November 16, 2025. Apply now at: lytharts.org.uk/young- music-makers-trainee-opportunity-3
