‘Outstanding show forward’ at Caithness livestock sale
The Caithness Livestock Centre at Quoybrae sold 460 weaned calves, store cattle and 28 breeding rams last week.
Champion in the WD Cormack and Sons sponsored show and sale – judged by Stuart Hunter, West Cairnhill, Culsamond – was a 306kg Limousin cross heifer from Graham Sutherland, The Antlers, Occumster, and sold for £2400 to JS Baillie & Co, Sebay Farm, Tankerness.
Reserve was a 347kg Limousin cross heifer from GW Begg, Vauldale, Nybster, and realised £2600 to Scott Drever, Lighthouse, Tankerness.
Weaned calf bullocks (249) averaged 489.1p (+141.3p on the year) sold to 749.3p and £2600 gross for a 347kg Limousin Cross from Vauldale, Nysbter.
Bullocks (20) averaged 404.6p and sold to 456.4p for a 390kg Charolais Cross from 3 Forss and £2420 gross for a 714kg Aberdeen Angus Cross from Guidibest, Latheron.
Weaned calf heifers (172) averaged 472p (+121p on the year) sold to 784.3p and £2400 gross for a 306kg Limousin Cross from The Antlers.
Heifers (19) averaged 412.8p and sold to 492.5p for a 333kg Limousin Cross from North Winless and £2060 gross for a 526kg Limousin Cross from West Clyth, Occumster.
