An Aberdeen man who intervened while police were dealing with an incident as people were leaving a Thurso nightclub has been admonished.

Greg Young's behaviour was described as having been at the lower end of a breach of the peace and his record of offending was minimal.

Wick Sheriff Court heard on Wednesday that police were dispersing people from Skinandi's nightclub in the early hours of December 5, last year.

Fiscal David Barclay said that Young (41) was "getting in the officers' way" as they were dealing with another person.

The police were concerned that the accused was likely to attract a crowd and arrested him.

George Mathers said that Young, who had been drinking, couldn't remember why he had got involved but he might have been trying to persuade officers not to arrest the other person. The solicitor said: "He should have just minded his own business."

Mr Mathers added that Young, an offshore worker, of Bithwell Road, Aberdeen, was "ashamed and embarrassed" by his behaviour, which he admitted, and had apologised to the police the following day.

Sheriff David Sutherland was told that the accused was "unlikely to re-offend".
