‘Noss pupils deserve a medal!’ – Praise for children’s efforts at flower show
Pupils at Noss Primary were given medals by the local gardening club as a token of appreciation for all the effort they put into its annual flower show.
Pupils from P2, P4/5, P5 and P7 all entered a picture of a summer scene, with pupils from P5 also entering bird feeders made from recyclable materials.
Members of Reiss Gardening Club and the public who attended the show were drawn to the display of colourful pictures which adorned every wall of Reiss Hall and were impressed with the different designs of bird feeders.
The club members were delighted to see so many entries, and felt that the children deserved a special acknowledgement. So, club chairperson Carol Place and club secretary Marion Sutherland visited the school to personally thank all the pupils and teachers for their hard work and to present all those who entered with a medal.
Even with the large number of entries, which made judging difficult, some prize-winners were selected and they also received a certificate and a monetary prize. The ladies commented after their visit about how friendly and welcoming the school was and particularly on how mannerly the children were.
The school’s Right Respecting Schools (RRS) lead, Miss Hilda Sutherland, was very pleased to hear such lovely feedback from the ladies and the club members.
Head teacher Fraser Thomson acknowledged the efforts of the pupils during the presentation.
He said: “It’s a pleasure to welcome Carol and Marion to our school to present the awards. The standard of entries was very high. This is a competition that is always very popular with our pupils and it’s great to see their efforts being recognised. Huge thanks to the staff team for supporting.”
Noss Primary School is currently working towards achieving the next level in the RRS scheme. A big part of this is educating pupils about their rights and respect, and it also encourages pupils to develop their talents, not only in school but in the wider community.
Entering the flower show provided an opportunity for the pupils to show off their artistic and design skills. Receiving recognition from the community for doing so was warmly welcomed by the youngsters and they all felt proud leaving the school with their medals round their necks.
