FOOD FOR THOUGHT by Rev Heather Stewart, Parish of Latheron
As we embark upon a new year, once again, we find that we are still dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic. This virus is affecting the entire world. I don't know about you, but perhaps there was a sense of hope last year at this time that as we turned the page on 2020, this would all be behind us within a few months. Yet it turns out that we are still far from being “free” of this virus.
New Year is a time when we look back to the past year and reflect on the events that took place in the world and in our own lives. Some folk look forward to a new year with new opportunities and changes but others may feel that there is nothing to look forward to – it’s just another year to “get through”.
None of us knows what this year will bring and that can be scary, but we can rest assured that God promises to be with us in our fears and in our hopes. While we cannot possibly know what the future holds, Christians believe that God does and in Him is our hope and security. “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)
There's a beautiful song written by Bill Gaither many years ago, and the lyrics are as powerful today (maybe more so) as when they were written:
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, all fear is gone.
Because I know, yes I know, He holds the future.
This life is worth the living, just because He lives!
May you know the blessing of God throughout 2022.
