NHS Highland health board region records 19 further cases of Covid-19 coronavirus in the past 24 hours

NINETEEN new cases of Covid-19 have been detected across the NHS Highland area.

The region’s cumulative number of cases increased from 4582 to 4601 when the daily figures were released at 2pm on Wednesday.

Thirty people were being treated for the virus in NHS Highland hospitals last night – six of whom were in intensive care. Both figures were unchanged from yesterday.

Across Scotland there were 798 positive tests in the past – representing 3.9 per cent of all tests conducted over that period.

Some 1018 people were being treated for the virus in the country’s hospitals last night – a fall of 58 from Tuesday’s update.

Of those, 93 were in intensive care. This was unchanged from yesterday.

And sadly a further 47 deaths have been registered among those who tested positive in the previous 28 days.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, two new cases were detected in NHS Eileanan Siar – taking its total to 268.

The Northern Isles, meanwhile, once again registered no new positive tests.

Forty-seven new cases were recorded across NHS Grampian, taking its total to 13,385.

And NHS Tayside’s cumulative total is 13,016 after 49 fresh infections were detected.

Some 199,637 people in Scotland have now had confirmed Covid-19 infections since the beginning of the pandemic.

Almost 1.5 million people in Scotland have now had their first vaccination dose. Nearly 23,000 people received their first jag yesterday, while almost 7000 were given their second – with almost 30,000 being administered in total.
