NINE new Covid-19 infections have been recorded across the NHS Highland area, official figures have shown.

The region’s cumulative number of confirmed cases rose from 5041 to 5050 when the Scottish Government published its latest daily update at 2pm.

There were 199 positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland in the past 24 hours – or 2.4 per cent of all tests during that period.

Some 154 people were being treated for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night – of whom 21 were in intensive care.

No new deaths were recorded among those who tested positive for the virus in the previous 28 days.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new positive tests across NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar in the past 24 hours.

Thirteen fresh cases were detected in NHS Grampian, which has now recorded 14.649 confirmed infections since the pandemic began.

And a dozen new infections were registered in NHS Tayside – for a running tally of 14,454.

Scotland has now recorded 222,161 confirmed cases of the virus since the pandemic first broke out last year.

Some 2,668,723 people have now had their first Covid-19 vaccination jag, while 590,174 have received their second injection.
