Seventy-three fresh positive tests for Covid-19 coronavirus detected across NHS Highland health board region in past 24 hours

SEVENTY-three new cases of Covid-19 were detected across the NHS Highland area in the past 24 hours.
The cumulative number of confirmed cases in the health board since the pandemic began stood at 8806 on Thursday. This is lower than the 8933 that was reported earlier this week, after Public Health Scotland revised its totals based on past inclusion of cases which were accidentally counted twice.
Across Scotland more than 700 cases were stripped out of the overall national total as a result, with 200 of those being in the NHS Highland area.
Nineteen people were being treated for the virus in NHS Highland hospitals last night – a fall of one from yesterday.
There were 1398 newly confirmed cases of Covid-19 across Scotland in the past 24 hours – or 4.6 per cent of those people tested during that window.
Some 490 people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night – up 16 from the previous day.
Of those, 60 were in intensive care. This was down by three.
And sadly another 13 deaths have been reported among people who previously tested positive for the virus in the past 28 days.
Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new cases overnight in NHS Orkney. NHS Shetland reported two fresh infections, for a running total of 370, while NHS Eileanan Siar’s tally rose by five, to 413.
NHS Grampian reported 126 new positive tests, taking its cumulative total to 22,586.
And the NHS Tayside figure rose to 26,435 after 95 fresh cases were detected overnight.
There have now been 342,704 known cases of Covid-19 across Scotland since the pandemic began.
Almost 4.01 million people have now received their first Covid-19 vaccination jag, while nearly 3.15 million have had their second.
