Newton Park pupils raise thousands for air ambulance appeal
Pupils at Newton Park Primary School in Wick have raised thousands of pounds for an air ambulance appeal.
They took a challenge to run 145 laps of the school playground, and smashed that by completing 16,897.
The school was able to donate a total £4657 to Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) for its Operation Skyward appeal to provide a new, more advanced air ambulance.
Teacher Michelle Foubister said she was proud of her P5/6 class for taking the initiative on the fundraising campaign.
“My class asked to hold a bring-and-buy sale which had the most incredible donations of toys, books, games and teddies,” she said. “We raised £1035 at that, selling items which were pre-loved, and the class made me so proud organising, advertising, selling and collecting in the weeks before.
“We continued fundraising and had a donation of printed tote bags and cakes to sell to the staff. Others were so generous with amazing donations too.
“The children's interest in this charity was sparked during our project learning about local agencies that help people. When the children realised SCAA was a charity-run ambulance they wanted to help.”
Mrs Foubister added: “I wanted to share how incredibly proud I am of my class organising all this. The staff and children at Newton Park all came together to help, as well as amazing support from the local community. The initial target was £300!”
SCAA needs to raise an additional £2 million in 2025 to get a new H145 D3 helicopter in the air and ready to respond across Scotland.
