Jane Coll from Thurso has just released a companion piece to her walkers guidebook on saintly pilgrim routes through the far north called In Their Footsteps: An Exploration of a Northern Pilgrimage Way.

Ms Coll's latest book gives the relevant history of places along the pilgrim route and is primarily designed as a companion to the walkers guidebook for the Northern Pilgrims’ Way – a medieval pilgrimage route that passes through the most northerly part of mainland Scotland and on to the island of Orkney.

The author said: "It will also be of interest to those who live along that route or have visited the area and have a fondness for it. It provides some background information on topics ranging from ‘What is a pilgrimage?’ to hints on driving on single-track roads.

"Then it takes the reader along the route, pointing out places of interest that they will pass through. It also includes details of six circular routes within Caithness linking the sites associated with the early Celtic saints who brought Christianity to these parts."

The book is priced £12 and available on Amazon at: www.amazon.co.uk/Their-Footsteps-Exploring-Northern-Pilgrimage/dp/B0B7SZZZ7R/

The jacket cover was created by Stuart Migham, who also designed the guidebook and various information panels in Caithness.
