Pensioner who died after being found injured named by police

A woman who died after being found injured in a house in South Lanarkshire has been named by police.

Susan Sergison, 78, was found with serious injuries in Gilmour Drive, Hamilton, on Wednesday and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 49-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the death and is expected to appear in court in due course.

I am aware that this incident will be of concern to the community in Hamilton but I would like to reassure people that we have a dedicated team of officers working on this investigation and there is no threat to the wider community

It is understood the woman has not been charged and police said that the investigation is continuing.

Area Commander Chief Inspector Neil Smith said: “My thoughts are with Susan’s family and friends at this very difficult time and our officers will continue to support them as this investigation continues.

“I am aware that this incident will be of concern to the community in Hamilton but I would like to reassure people that we have a dedicated team of officers working on this investigation and there is no threat to the wider community.

“Officers will remain in the area as inquiries are carried out and anyone with any concerns, can approach them.”
