Pensioner dies after crash between car and lorry

A pensioner has died following a crash involving a car and a lorry.

The crash happened on the A98 near Buckie, Moray on Tuesday, around 12.25pm when an HGV lorry was involved in a collision with a red Nissan Micra.

Police said a 78-year-old woman who was the driver of the Micra was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment but died on Friday.

The 58-year-old man police said was driving the HGV was later arrested in connection with an alleged road traffic offence, and did not suffer any injuries.

The A98 was closed for around 12 hours to allow crash scene investigators to carry out enquiries.

It reopened at 12.20am on Wednesday.

Sergeant Lesley Morrison said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased and they have asked for privacy at this sad time.

“Enquiries remain ongoing as we work to establish how this collision happened. Anyone with information or dash-cam footage should get in contact, no matter how insignificant it may seem.”
