Murkle crash accused admits careless driving
A DRIVER whose lack of attention resulted in a two-car collision has been allowed to keep his licence.
Grant Anderson (21), of Seven Oaks, Old Wick, appeared at Wick Sheriff Court today to plead guilty to driving without care or attention and without reasonable consideration, driving in front of a car that was in the process of an overtaking manoeuvre.
Anderson was the driver of a Volkswagen Golf which hit a Honda Civic on the A836 Castletown to Thurso road at the old post office, near Murkle, on Monday, January 30.
The accused was driving home from work at Dounreay carrying front-seat passenger Gordon MacLeod (21) and back-seat passenger Kevin Morrice (37).
Morrice has been receiving treatment for the past five months and is currently being cared for at the rehabilitation unit at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.
Anderson also suffered serious injuries, including damaged hearing and double vision.
Taking into account he had no previous convictions, Sheriff Andrew Berry said he did not believe it would be in the public interest to disqualify the accused from driving.
Anderson was handed four penalty points and a £400 fine.
