A CAITHNESS minister rev-elled in his latest fundraising venture despite some unseasonal weather.
The Rev Lyall Rennie and his daughter Izzy Cameron, who lives and works in Edinburgh, took part in a zip-wire challenge in Aviemore and raised almost £1200 for CrossReach, the social care department of the Church of Scotland.
It operates residential care homes, provides counselling and support services and helps the homeless and people with learning and mental health issues.
The pair had to complete 14 zip wires over a distance of two kilometres, the longest being 550 metres. The wires increased in length and height as they moved through the course.
The trip took them through a pine forest and over a gorge and lasted about two-and-a-half hours, although they encountered some unexpected wintry conditions which affected many parts of the country on Saturday.
"We survived the zip-wire challenge despite the snow," Lyall said. "Together we raised nearly £1200 for CrossReach. It was good fun but a little more physically challenging than I was expecting. I am thankful for the generosity of everyone who sponsored me."
The Pentland parish locum minister was delighted with the response from the public and raised almost double his initial target of £600. A coffee morning was held in Canisbay church hall in aid of the zip-wire challenge.
The minister and his daughter will each receive a certificate of bravery in the post for completing the task.
It is not the first time Lyall has undertaken a daring challenge to raise money for worthwhile causes. Last summer he abseiled off the Forth Road Bridge to give a boost to CrossReach funds.
In 2011, he abseiled from Dunrobin Castle and raised about £800 for charity.
