A Thurso-born artist is delighted to have four of her paintings currently on display in a "real physical space" rather than an online gallery.

Leah Davis graduated with a first-class honours degree in contemporary art and contextualised practice at the University of the Highlands and Islands in Inverness this summer but was unable to exhibit for her degree show due to Covid restrictions.

However, four of her works were chosen for a Christmas Showcase of British talent by the Six Foot Gallery in Glasgow which opened last Thursday and runs until January 8, 2021.

"Art in person is always such a different experience than seeing them on a screen," said Leah.

"I didn't get to exhibit for my degree show because of Covid, so its great to have these pieces in a physical space at last where people can see them in person," said Leah.

The four works have also been entered into an online Caithness show that will launch in December.

Glasgow is notable as a vibrant cultural hub for aspiring artists, writers and musicians so Leah was particularly delighted to have her paintings chosen for a gallery there.

"Glasgow as a city is very exciting for me, I visit all the time," she said.

"Before lockdown I was there most months, as much as I could, seeing live bands. So, exhibiting there is ticking off another goal on my list."

Leah says that her selection of paintings came out of a project exploring women's empowerment and overcoming her own negative experiences through a feminist approach.

"My current MA work in progress continues to respond to my life journey, but this time through a psychoanalytical lens. I'm extremely interested in the use of archetypes and symbolism in artistic practice."

Leah intends to start approaching art galleries further south very soon. "So watch this space," she added.
