Members of a Wick-based baton twirling dance troupe received recognition for their performances in a national online competition.

Marrellian Majorettes recently took part in its first virtual cheer dance competition run by CheerDance UK which attracted entries from all over Britain.

Coach Carrie MacKay said: "All the girls made it through to various recalls and finals in very large sections, with four placing in the finals. All the girls who took part had a great time and we hope to compete with the association again in the future."

Awards for the virtual competition were sent out after the event and some of the girls were pictured together at a small outdoor presentation.

Marrellian Majorettes is a local run dance school which was established around 40 years ago. Coaches are affiliated to UKAPTD and the dancers do exams twice a year with this association. Dancers range from three-years-old to adult and train weekly in Wick. The girls compete locally and in the South of Scotland. Throughout the year the girls also perform at various parades, shows and local fun days.
