The man who died after an incident at a house in Wick's Barrogill Street will be remembered as "a much-loved father and brother".

Family members of Thomas McTeir (50) issued a statement today in which they said his loss would be sorely felt.

A 60-year-old man appeared in private at Inverness Sheriff Court on Thursday on a charge of murder following the incident the weekend before last.

Mr McTeir died at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness on Tuesday, June 16, having first been taken to Caithness General Hospital.

In a statement released through Police Scotland, his family said: "Tommy was a much-loved father and brother. His loss will be sorely felt by many.

"We would ask that we are given privacy to come to terms with his loss at this time."

At Inverness Sheriff Court on Thursday, Bruce Rothwell (60) appeared in private on a murder charge. Rothwell, of Wick, made no plea, was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.

His defence solicitor Laura-Jane McFarlane applied for bail but it was refused by Sheriff Gary Aitken.

Police confirmed that the 60-year-old had been arrested and charged after "a disturbance" at a property in Barrogill Street around 9.30pm on Saturday, June 13.

Police said last week they would continue to have a presence in the area and were appealing for anyone with information about the incident to get in touch.
