A Thurso man displayed the 'classic' signs of drug misuse and prompted the police to stop and search him.

Officers recovered 15 alprazolam tablets from Graham McPhee, Wick Sheriff Court was told on Wednesday.

McPhee (35), of Queen's Terrace, Thurso, admitted possession of the drug in the town's Millbank Road, on June 6, last year and a record. He was fined £100 by Sheriff Andrew Berry who said he had restricted the fine in view of the accused's early plea.

Fiscal David Barclay told the court that McPhee's demeanour had given a clear indication that he was under the influence of a controlled substance. He added that the tablets would have had a limited street value.

However, solicitor Fiona MacDonald said that the drugs were for McPhee's personal use.
