Starting a new romance with her boyfriend and his two dogs proved too much for a woman.

Wick Sheriff Court was told today she ended the four-day relationship and dumped her partner's possessions outside her front door.

The sudden split was more than Stephen Black (28) could bear and when police officers arrived he shouted and swore at them and was arrested.

Sheriff James Mulgrew heard the accused had travelled north from his home in Peterhead on March 5 and moved in with his girlfriend at Dixonfield House, Thurso.

Fiscal David Barclay described it as “something of a whirlwind romance” which started out like a Mills and Boon story but ended like a Stephen King script.

The fiscal explained it soon became apparent to the girlfriend that the relationship was not going to work but she could not bring herself to break it to him.

On March 9, Black left the house with the dogs to visit a street market in Wick and his girlfriend took the opportunity to gather his possessions and put them in the communal corridor, locking the door of the flat.

Mr Barclay said that, on his return, Black “put two-and-two together” and realised she was not going to engage with him either at the door or on the phone.

The fiscal went on: “The accused was quite emotional and was surprised and disappointed about it.”

He decided to hang about and see if he could see his now ex-girlfriend in the hope of “trying to work things out”.

However, police were alerted to a man with two dogs at the entrance to Dixonfield House although there was nothing untoward happening.

When officers arrived Black explained the situation to them and they advised him to leave the building.

Mr Barclay said: “Black felt he had been hard done by at the hands of his former girlfriend. It obviously became too much for him.

“He became frustrated and angry while being escorted from the building by the police and began shouting and swearing at them and, despite efforts to calm him down, was aggressive and threatening.

“Officers, fearing the situation might escalate, arrested him.”

Black, who was not present in court, was said to have returned to his previous home in Peterhead.

Sheriff Mulgrew observed the accused had a limited record of offending, none of which involved the police and had tendered an early plea.

He fined Black, who admitted a charge of threatening or abusive behaviour, £160.
