A MAN has been found dead following a fire in Inverness city centre.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Queensgate on Wednesday morning.

A police spokeswoman said: "Around 2.50am on Wednesday, April 14, officers were called to reports of a fire within a property in Queensgate.

"Emergency services attended, and the body of a 57-year-old man was found within the property. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"A joint investigation with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to establish the cause of the fire is ongoing."

Queensgate was closed this morning but was expected to reopen a short time later.
