THE owners of Mackays Hotel in Wick showed their generosity by handing out money raised at a charity ball to benefit two local causes.

Ellie Lamont, speaking on behalf of the family, said: "Our charity balls are twofold – to raise money for charity and also provide a fun night out for our guests.

"Money came from raffle tickets and bids for the auction prizes, and guests had a ball on our blackjack and roulette tables, raising even more for our chosen charities.

"We brought Feeva [female tribute band] up from Glasgow again and everyone danced the night away."

The charities benefiting are the North Highland Cancer Information and Support Centre and Dyslexia Scotland Caithness branch for providing "fantastic support for families" in the area.

"Without these charities life might be harder for those diagnosed with cancer and dyslexia and their families," she added.

Ellie said the family were "over the moon" to be able to split £5400 between the two charities.

"None of this would have been possible without the support of local businesses who donated to and sold raffles and auction prizes – a huge thank-you to them."

The representatives who gathered at Mackays for the handover all expressed their delight at the generosity of the hotel owners and said the money would be of immense benefit to their charity organisations.
