Dundee United winger Gary Mackay-Steven could be in line to win his first senior cap after being named in the Scotland squad for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Wales and Serbia.

The 22-year-old Thurso man has been chosen by manager Gordon Strachan after a number of sensational perfomances in the Scottish Premier League this season.

Strachan said: “He has been terrific this season and I think it is only right that we recognise young Scottish talent.”

Scotland play Wales at Hampden on Friday, March 22 and travel to Novi Rad to take on Serbia four days later.

Mackay-Steven will become the first player from Caithness to play for his country since Bryan Gunn, who won six caps between 1990 and 1994.
