Wick's Fun Day at the weekend was a great success with lots of people turning up to enjoy the umbrella parade followed by the switch-on of the town's Christmas lights.
Claire Mackenzie, chairperson of Wick Christmas Lights Committee, said: "We were lucky that the weather held. It started off slow, but really picked up, we had a lot of foot fall with lots of people coming along."
Santa arrived in his sleigh along with his helper, Mrs Claus, in time to lead the children taking part in the popular umbrella parade which started off from the boating shed on Saturday around 3.30pm. The colourful procession made its way up through the town to the Market Square where Santa and his helper switched on the lights at 4pm.
Commenting on the this year's amazing umbrellas, Claire said: "The effort put in was great. We were delighted – it was really busy in the Market Square. We had a good response from the public."
The stallholders were kept busy too, with the lights committee having four stalls and a number of people also took part through the recently formed Wick Community Market group.
A team of volunteers have been busy putting the finishing touches to Santaland which opens tomorrow night at Wick's Rosebank Playing Fields. The festive themed park will continue again this week on Friday and Sunday. Next week it will be open on Monday, Thursday and Friday.
Santa's sleigh will visit the streets in the town next week from Monday to Thursday.
