Left-field launch for north band’s new EP

A CAITHNESS band hotly tipped for big things is hosting an intimate EP launch in typically left-field style.

The Maginot Band – formerly Maydays – are hosting the launch of their new EP in an old, abandoned, roofless cottage approximately three miles beyond the village of Watten in the Caithness countryside.

On September 8 the cottage at Backlass will see the first playing of new release Peace & Quiet, their first EP under the new handle.

Drummer Darren Coghill said it should make for a great atmosphere to complement the new mature, indie sound of the band.

“Our plan is to turn it into a functioning venue for the evening,” he said.

“Joining us on the bill are fellow Caithnessians Oskar Empire and one act to be announced.

“This really has the potential to be a special gig. Obviously great weather could make or break it but we hopefully have a tarp arranged for the ‘roof’.”

The Caithness six-piece has been making a name for itself, having already played alongside rising stars such as Pete and the Pirates and The Imagineers – as well as at the opening of the fourth session of the Scottish Parliament.

Darren and band-mates Jordan Shearer (vocals), Liam Whittles (organ), Kevin Swanson (guitar), Jamie Swanson (guitar and vocals) and bassist Calvin Wilson made their debut under the new name at B-fest in Wick earlier this month – proving to be more popular than ever on the Friday night slot.

More details and ticket information will be released closer to the launch.
