A former City of Edinburgh councillor with family links to Reay will be the Labour candidate for the far north at this year's Scottish Parliament elections.

Marion Donaldson was unanimously selected at an online meeting of Caithness, Sutherland and Ross Labour Party to contest the seat currently held by the SNP's Gail Ross, who is standing down.

Ms Donaldson was raised on Skye and her family is rooted in the Highlands, including paternal family connections to the Church of Scotland manse in Reay.

A former pharmacist and City of Edinburgh councillor, she is self-employed in the offshore wind sector as a start-up adviser to small and medium-sized enterprises.

“I am delighted to have been chosen to represent Caithness, Sutherland and Ross in the upcoming election," Ms Donaldson said. "I look forward in the coming weeks to listening and discussing with the community my hopes and vision for the local area."

The elections will take place on May 6.
