I AM proud to be a native-born Thursonian and have lived and worked in the area all my life. I have represented the people of Thurso for many years.
I do believe that the Highland Council is far too large and lacking in democratic accountability which is hugely detrimental to Caithness. I pledge to work with other like-minded councillors who believe that many decisions should be decided by councillors elected from that area, rather than from hundreds of miles away.
If elected I pledge to:
- Support adequate budgets for care of the elderly and for pre-school and full-time education for our children.
- Support more police on the streets.
- Work with other agencies and the Scottish Government to attract modern industries to Caithness and seek urgent improvements to our transport infrastructure.
- Continue to encourage Asda to set up in Thurso.
- Maintain our cemetery, parks, gardens and streets in a clean and attractive manner and ensure that the disgraceful mart site is tidied and cleaned as soon as possible.
- We must continue to seek a proper resolution to the dilapidated house in Princes Street
- Sir John’s Square. We must find the most suitable use for Dunbar Hospital.
- I believe that with my energy and experience of local government I can make a substantial contribution to the future of our town.
