Unemployed job-seekers in Caithness are being offered free help online in finding their next role by a Glasgow-based firm.

Until the end of the year, anybody out of work can apply for free access to the Virtual Job Interview Masterclass from Pink Elephant Communications.

The online course is made up of 10 video modules taking viewers through successful interview techniques, as well as mastering their technical set-up.

Castletown man Colin Stone is a senior trainer at the firm.

He said: "When I left Thurso High School in 2009, there were only really two choices – stay in Caithness or move away to study.

"But so much has changed in the last six months in terms of where people can build a career.

"There are plenty of jobs now that can be done from home, so there's a whole world of opportunity out there for those who know how to take advantage."

The offer of free support is in anticipation of widespread job cuts after the end of the furlough period this month.

Students will learn how to build rapport with interviewers online, perfect their body language and answer the most awkward of questions with confidence.

Colin, who is a former STV and Radio Clyde reporter, presents the course alongside former recruiter Andrew McFarlan.

"The amount of people I know who've had to do a job interview via Skype or Zoom this year has gone through the roof," Colin said.

"It's a whole new world compared to the face-to-face interview. There's a lot more unknowns about how to absolutely nail your pitch.

"This masterclass is about giving people the confidence to do just that, and I really want anyone out of work back home to give it a shot."

Pink Elephant’s managing director Andrew McFarlan said: “Anybody who is currently unemployed and looking for something new can email us to request a free licence.

"They’ll learn how to research, prepare properly, interact professionally, present with confidence, answer tough questions, lead the conversation and make a winning impression on interviewers.

“I entered a tough jobs market in 2009 mid-recession with up to 50 applicants for each job. I learned how to go way over and above to make a successful impression based on solid communication techniques and hard work. That’s what I’m here to share."

The 60-minute course is available via Pink Elephant’s e-learning website at pinkelephantcomms.thinkific.com
