A CAITHNESS woman has been appointed as a head teacher at a school in Inverness.

Angela Downie, who comes from Wick, is the new head at Cauldeen primary school. She is currently head teacher at Millwards primary in Essex.

Ms Downie is one of six new head teachers to be appointed by Highland Council at schools in its area.

Bill Alexander, Highland Council’s director of care and learning service, said: “The head teacher sets direction and is the leader of our school communities, and I am very pleased to have filled these important vacancies with excellent appointments.

“The appointment of first class head teachers is a key priority, and the council is also keen to attract new staff to work in a variety of vacancies in schools across the region,” he added.
