Hyacinths the star in club show

WICK and District Gardening Club held its annual bulb show in the St Fergus Church hall last week when members and friends enjoyed a colourful display of spring flowers.

The three hyacinths entry from Sheena Waters was judged best in show while the most points accolade went to Sheila MacLeod.

After the judging members enjoyed tea and entertainment by James Walker.

Results – Three pink hyacinths, Ibis: 1, Sheena Waters; 2, Katherine Baikie; 3, Gladys Gunn. Two hyacinths, Miss Saigon: 1, Jeanette Coghill; 2, G. Gunn; 3, Margaret Murray. Five single tulips, Apricot Beauty: 1, S. MacLeod; 2, M. Murray; 3, K. Baikie.

Ten crocuses: 1, S. MacLeod; 2, G. Gunn; 3, M. Murray. Ten Tête-à-tête daffodils: 1, S. MacLeod; 2, K. Baikie; 3, J. Coghill. One amaryllis: 1, G. Gunn; 2, S. Waters; 3, M. Murray.

Most points: 1, S. MacLeod; 2, G. Gunn. Best exhibit: S. Waters.

Best brooch competition: 1, Dorothy Johnston; 2, S. Waters; 3, Ruth Swanson.

The next meeting will be in the church hall on Monday, April 2, at 7.30pm when Matthew Dent will talk about composting and wormeries. Anyone interested is welcome to go along.
