THE Pilot House at Wick's Braehead was targeted by vandals late on Tuesday evening. A rone pipe had been ripped off and been used to try and prise open one of the shuttered windows, according to local man Derek Bremner who discovered the vandalism early on Wednesday.

Wick man Derek Bremner noticed the vandalism on Wednesday morning and alerted Peter Sutherland who recently refurbished the Pilot House.

“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing as Ped [Peter Sutherland] had only just done all that marvellous work on it. They’d also chopped down loads of daffodils along the path,” Mr Bremner said. A piece of pipe was lying at an angle and another piece detached and thrown over the brae which Mr Bremner retrieved.

Later that morning, Pilot House proprietor Peter Sutherland was busy fixing the damage. “It’s good that folk are keeping an eye out for the place and things like this often bring the community together," he said. "I’ll get this pipe welded back in but it’s a shame it happened in the first place.”

Mr Sutherland did some major refurbishment work on the 111-year-old structure recently and the striking building has become a popular attraction for morning tea and snacks.

“It’s completely senseless trying to break in as there’s nothing of monetary value in the place,” Mr Sutherland added.

Anyone who noticed suspicious activity in the area on Tuesday evening should contact the police.
