Highland Bronze Age discovery to feature in Highland Archaeology Festival this weekend
A ROSEMARKIE Bronze Age discovery is set to be at the forefront of the Highland Archaeology Festival this weekend.
The festival, which takes place in Inverness, will include a talk about the exceptional Bronze Age hoard found at Rosemarkie which has been in the national news this week. This precious hoard of neatly packed items buried for safekeeping almost 3000 years ago, was unearthed along with evidence of several Bronze Age houses at a building site on the Black Isle.
Archaeologists undertaking the analysis of the objects found on the Black Isle have said it was the "most complete and complicated" example of its type yet found in Scotland.
The festival programme features talks, the opportunity to network with a wide variety of stalls to browse. Attending will be a diverse range of local groups, commercial archaeologists, universities, national organisations and museums.
Chair of the Highland Council’s economy and infrastructure committee, Councillor Ken Gowans said: “Our 2025 Highland Archaeology conference will highlight recent work on the archaeology and heritage of the Highlands. At well as informative guest speakers, there will be an opportunity to speak to representatives from local groups and organisations and brow lots of interesting stalls. It is about coming together to share the unique and special heritage of the Highlands.
“Tickets are still available, so I urge anyone interested to book their place, be it for both days or one day. Everyone will be made to feel very welcome.”
