Members of a local amateur football team are gearing up for a pedal-power fundraiser this weekend.

High Ormlie Hotspur will be aiming to raise money for club funds and for Caithness Health Action Team by completing a 150-mile cycle on a static bike in Thurso's Comm Bar.

The event takes place on Saturday – the day of the Scottish Cup final between Hearts and Rangers – and will run from noon until 6pm.

Player/co-manager Rob McLean said: "Between the squad of players we're going to be cycling 150 miles and the boys have each got sponsor sheets to get filled out. There's also a sponsor sheet inside the Comm Bar for anyone that wishes to donate any money.

"Some money will go to the club, which is badly needed – all the money we get is from fundraising opportunities like this. But we will be making a donation to Caithness Health Action Team.

"It's something for the boys to look forward to and we're able to help one of the local organisations that do great work across the county as well, so it ticks a lot of boxes for us."

High Ormlie were in Highland Amateur Cup action on Saturday, winning 1-0 away to Helmsdale United despite their team bus breaking down at Berriedale.
