Halladale Film Club to run Do What You Can Day for second year running as part of climate festival
For the second year running, Halladale Film Club is hosting a Do What You Can Day as part of the Highlands and Islands Climate Festival.
The event at Halladale Community Hall on Friday, September 27, will include a clothing recycling workshop followed by an early evening meal and screening of the environmental film, Wilding.
A team of sewers will be on hand from 2.30pm to give advice on how to give clothes a new lease of life. Sewing machines and overlockers will also be available.
A spokesperson for Halladale Film Club said: “The event will focus on how we can be more mindful of the clothes that we wear and how to repair or repurpose clothes that may be languishing forgotten in your wardrobe.
“There will be opportunities to donate clothes and to find a new look for yourself. Participants can also have fun upcycling old clothes into bags and aprons on the day.
“By making small changes in our lives, we can play a part in reducing waste and helping the planet.”
A simple evening meal will be served from 5.30pm and at 7.30pm there will be a screening of Wilding, a 2023 documentary film about Charlie Burrell, and Isabella Tree’s rewilding project, Knepp Wildland, in west Sussex.
The visually stunning film is based on Tree’s book of the same name, a memoir and an account of the ecology of the countryside.
Wilding tells the remarkable story of Knepp’s transformation from a barren tract of marginal land to a fertile oasis.
All are welcome to attend for all or part of the day. Donations are invited for food and the film screening.
The Highlands and Islands Climate Festival runs from September 1-30 is a celebration of localism and community involvement.
