MANY who waited patiently to have their lockdown locks snipped will be delighted with the current phase of the Scottish Government's plan allowing hairdressing salons to reopen.
At Angela's hair salon, in Back Bridge Street in Wick, proprietor Angela Sutherland and employee Amanda Bruce were busy working away on two customers this morning.
"If anyone wants an appointment they have to phone in [01955 609000] and we give them a time slot," Angela said.
"We're trying to accommodate all our regular customers first."
Jenny Myers had travelled from Thurso to have her hair done after 17 weeks without so much as a tiny trim.
"I came down from Thurso every Thursday normally," said Jenny, who would certainly be defined as a "regular customer".
Hair stylist Amanda Bruce, an employee at Angela's, said she was "really buzzing" to be back at work and thoroughly enjoying the experience.
She said: "I've got a face shield on and customers have to come in with their masks on. The gowns on customers are taken in the back once we're done with them. We also use hand sanitiser and everything is sterilised after."
Angela said she is working flat out for six days a week and trying to accommodate as many customers as possible but admits that it's hard with restrictions on numbers entering the salon.
Along on Wick High Street, Morag's café was open for seated customers and carefully sticking to all the health and safety guidelines from the government.
Across the road on High Street, DeVita's café and pizzeria is still closed but the owners are using the lockdown time constructively and sprucing up both the interior and exterior.
Louis DeVita Jr was busy painting the front of the building as Pamela DeVita supervised.
"We're open for takeaways on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. We're fully opening in mid-August," Pamela said.
"We're doing new flooring and new seated areas inside. Everything is done according to the government advice and it's looking really good."
