Pupils at a north-west Sutherland primary school are over the moon after receiving a boost to their digital learning resources, thanks to a generous donation from spaceflight firm Orbex.

The Forres-based firm, which recently confirmed that work at its Sutherland site is set to resume in 2027, delivered 30 computer mice and five pairs of wireless headphones to pupils at Tongue Primary School.

The gift is already helping youngsters make better use of their classroom Chromebooks, enabling them to enjoy online learning opportunities.

The new equipment will aid pupils in using digital tools to support their learning.

The donation is part of Orbex’s broader mission to support education and skills in the North of Scotland, with a particular focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects.

Dee Roberts, Principal Teacher at Tongue Primary, said the pupils were delighted with the new equipment.

“The pupils of Tongue Primary School are very grateful to Orbex for their kind donation of computer mice and headphones,” she said. “These items will help to instil digital skills in the children, allowing them to use their Chromebooks more efficiently and access online learning more easily.”

Orbex CEO Phil Chambers said: “It might seem like a small thing, but having the right tools can make a big difference to a young person’s ability to learn and feel confident with technology.

“We’re proud to play a small part in supporting learning in Tongue.”
