Funding applications now open for ‘Caithness Educational Trust’
Highland Council highlights that applications are now open for Caithness residents to apply for special educational trust funds to help further their careers.
Multiple education trust funds to the value of around £7m are now open for applications and include grants, university and college bursaries, scholarships and funds for schools and sports.
The Caithness Educational Trust Scheme started in 1936 and has a number of endowments from generous benefactors over the years to support both individual young people and schools.
It is part of the Highland Council Charitable Trusts, which is looked after by council members. There are a wide variety of prize monies issued to schools each year in memory of the benefactors.
To be eligible to apply for funding from the Caithness Educational Trust, you must be from, or reside in, Caithness or attended a local school.
Education trust fund sub-committee chair, Cllr Drew Millar said: “There are significant trust funds held by Highland Council on behalf of generous bequests for educational benefit within various Highland communities, and the recent efforts to streamline the application process will ensure that children, young people and adult learners benefit from the intentions and bequests of the scheme founders.
“I encourage people to visit the new education trust fund website and look at the various funds available to determine if they are eligible to apply. I’d also encourage community representatives, teaching staff and sports clubs to spread the word about the Education Trust Fund Scheme to help raise awareness of the support available.”
Applications can be submitted between January 6 to February 28, 2025, with awards agreed and granted in March 2025.
