It was a case of “Vive la France!” at Wick’s Newton Park Primary School as pupils took part in a Fun French Friday.

The children dressed in the colours of the French flag and took part in various activities to broaden their knowledge about France and to boost their French vocabulary.

There was a wide range of tasty treats for the children to sample, including baguettes, brioche rolls and pains au chocolat, as well as cheeses such as Camembert and Brie. The classes then paired up and the older children supported the younger ones in learning French words for topics such as numbers, pets, the body, sports, colours and clothes.

Head teacher Lilian Wark said: “There was a nice atmosphere in the school and everyone seemed to enjoy the various activities that were organised. It was great to see the children working together to complete our own ‘Tour de France’.

“They started on the map at Calais and tried to see how far they could get. The older children had an exercise bike and the rest of the school ran laps around the playground. The total distance achieved was 309km, so we managed to reach Paris!”
