Frank tells Spittal SWI about his fundraising walk on John O’Groats Trail

Anne Gunn, president of Spittal SWI, welcomed a good turnout of members to the February meeting.

After business had been attended to, Anne welcomed Frank Stephen who gave a talk and showed many slides of his fundraising walk of the John O’Groats Trail in aid of Alzheimer Scotland.

Frank, a retired vet, completed his 14-day walk at the end of May 2024 and raised a total of £35,500, including gift aid.

He answered many questions from the members.

Frank judged the competitions along with Linda Levack.

Results – Jar of caramel sauce: 1 Ruth Manson; 2 Liz Hewitson; 3 Heather Carberry; 4 Elizabeth Holman.

Valentine’s card (any craft): 1 Anne Gunn; 2 Ruth Manson; 3 Heather Carberry; 4 Liz Hewitson.

Tea hostess was Heather Hawkins and the raffle winner was Jean Watt.

A whist drive was held on January 31, with eight-and-three-quarters tables. Cardmaster was Alexander Longmuir.

Results – Ladies: 1 Doris Gunn, 176; 2 Eva Swanson, 168; 3 Sally Thomson, 165; consolation Mary Saint, 130.

Gents: 1 Liz Henderson (acting), 167; 2 Alexander Longmuir, 164; 3 Nicola Campbell (acting), 164; consolation Anne Gunn (acting), 146.
