NHS Highland area reports 14 new positive tests for Covid-19; rise came as Scotland recorded 992 fresh coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours

FOURTEEN further positive tests for Covid-19 have been recorded across the NHS Highland health board area.

The region’s total number of confirmed infections since the start of the pandemic rose from 5332 to 5346 when Public Health Scotland released its latest daily update at 2pm on Friday.

There were 992 newly-confirmed cases of Covid-19 across Scotland in the past 24 hours – equivalent to 3.9 per cent of all Scots tested over that period.

Some 116 people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scotland’s hospitals last night, which was a rise of six from Thursday’s update.

Of those, eight were in intensive care. This was unchanged from the previous day.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were solitary new cases in both the NHS Eileanan Siar and NHS Orkney areas, whose cumulative numbers since the start of the pandemic rose to 299 and 76 respectively.

NHS Shetland registered two new cases, taking its tally to 239.

On the mainland, NHS Grampian’s overall total rose by 28, to 15,547.

And there were 144 new infections across NHS Tayside, for a rolling tally of 15,538.

Some 238,893 positive tests for Covid-19 have been recorded across Scotland since the pandemic began.

As of this morning, almost 3.33 million people have received their first vaccination jag in Scotland, while just over 2.17 million have had both shots.
