Four new Covid-19 coronavirus cases reported across NHS Highland health board region in the past 24 hours

FOUR further cases of the coronavirus have been registered across NHS Highland in the past day.

The region’s cumulative number of positive tests rose from 4968 to 4972.

Ten people were being treated for coronavirus in NHS Highland hospitals last night – an increase of three.

There were 542 new cases of Covid-19 across Scotland in the past day – or 2.1 per cent of those tested.

Two-hundred-and-thirty-seven people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night – down 13 from Tuesday’s update.

Of those, 21 were in intensive care. This was down two.

And sadly six further people have died after testing positive for the virus.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new cases overnight in either NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar, but one fresh infection was detected in NHS Shetland. It has now had 232 positive tests since the pandemic began.

NHS Grampian’s overall total rose by 48, to 14,374.

And there were 38 new cases in NHS Tayside, for a running total of 14,213.

Scotland has registered 218,432 positive tests for Covid-19 since the global pandemic started last year.

More than 2.46 million Scottish adults have now received their first vaccination jag, while almost 355,000 have had their second.
