Former Caithness Lord-Lieutenant Anne Dunnett is among those offering condolences to the Queen following the sad death of the Duke of Edinburgh.

Miss Dunnett, who retired from her role in 2017, said: "I met him several times while Lord-Lieutenant and found him always very charming."

She received a signed photo from Prince Philip and the Queen when she stepped down from the position.

Miss Dunnett's family has a long association with the royal family. When her father, William Dunnett, was the provost of Wick he met Prince Philip on a number of occasions. "I have quite a few photos of my dad with him," she added.

Prince Philip was a regular visitor to the county, accompanying the Queen on her annual trips to see the Queen Mother at the Castle of Mey. Large crowds would often gather when the royal yacht Britannia came in to Scrabster.

Highland Council has opened an online book of condolence.
