Members of the Thurso band Forgetting the Future have come up with a plan to help get them back on their feet after a particularly hard couple of years.

The up-and-coming indie rock band have launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money towards expenses and help make their dream a reality.

Singer Robbie McNicol said: "Basically we are starting a crowdfunding page to kind of try and bounce back after lockdown."

He explained that they had received no financial support from the government during the pandemic and living in Caithness meant they had to invest more in travelling to gigs and recording sessions.

"It has just been quite difficult through lockdown to financially support ourselves," said Robbie. "Starting the crowdfunding page we have reached out to everyone to ask for a little help."

The four-piece band – which includes Connor Wilson, drummer, Max Paul, bass, and Jamie Mackay, lead guitar – have done a few gigs in Glasgow, however at this stage in their career they have an audience capacity of about 300 at the venues they play.

They are finding the fees they receive barely cover transport costs, particularly if they also have to rent a van. "Obviously the more you gig the more you spend," said Robbie.

The band members, all in their early twenties, also have to juggle their own jobs with band commitments.

Forgetting the Future's gig tomorrow night (Saturday) in Mad Hatters at Hootananny in Inverness is sold out and the band are really looking forward to it. They have played in Inverness a few times but this is their first ever headline gig in the city.

"The support we have had from our fans has been amazing," said Robbie.

The response to the GoFundMe page launched on January 13, has also been great with £530 raised in the first 11 donations.

"It has been going amazing, specially through the time of a pandemic, it has been incredible," the vocalist said.

He hopes that some of the money can go towards recording fees. "That can be one of the hardest hitters," pointed out Robbie. "We released an album back in 2020 just before lockdown hit and we could not tour it. Since then we produced two extra singles – funding will help get them aired."

The popular local group are set to release a few more singles this year.
