Emergency services were required to attend a vehicle on fire on the B876 Castletown to Wick road at 11.24am earlier today.

The vehicle is understood to have caught fire shortly after the engine cut out just after the Bowermadden junction, near Bower.

Passers by who attended the incident say the lone driver of the vehicle was able to make their way to safety, before a fire crew attended and extinguished the blaze just over an hour later.

The B876 had to be closed until around 4pm between Bower and Lyth following the fire.
