CAITHNESS rock band Estrella set off on their first European tour later this month.

The band – comprising Thurso brothers Paul, Luke and Nathan Gunn along with Leo McPherson, from Elgin – will be supporting New York rock musician Robin Beck during her tour of Germany, Switzerland and Austria in this month and next.

Speaking to the Caithness Courier, Luke said 2012 had already been a successful year for the band but having the chance to go on tour in Europe was another significant milestone.

“This is brilliant news as it’s such a huge opportunity for us as a band – we can’t wait to take our music abroad,” he said.

“We’ve already had significant sales of our debut album in Europe and we’re getting radio airplay there as well, so hopefully we will get plenty of Estrella warriors coming to see us play.”

It has also been announced Estrella are to play at Hard Rock Hell’s AOR Festival taking place in Rotherham Steel Works in April.

Meanwhile, they will be returning, as one of the main support bands, to Les-Fest 2013, Scotland’s only festival dedicated to rock and metal music.

The band has also announced another round of UK tour dates including performances in the Stromness Hotel, Orkney, on Saturday and at the Newmarket Bar in Thurso on Saturday, December 15.
