Drivers are raring to go for the annual Caithness Banger Derby, taking place this Sunday near the Hill o' Many Stanes at Mid Clyth. Thirty-five cars of various sizes and descriptions have been entered.

Social distancing and Covid-19 rules will be in place, with spectators being welcomed at their own risk. Anyone with coronavirus-related symptoms is asked to stay away.

Hand sanitiser will be available at the car park and spectators are asked to keep a safe distance throughout, with masks advisable.

Last year's overall champion and reverse winner was Alexander Campbell, with Frances Sutherland taking the ladies' title.

Racing commentator Willie Mackay said: "I'm delighted that the voluntary committee of the Caithness Banger Derby has pulled this Sunday's meeting together, having worked very hard in these uncertain times where countless outdoor activities, events and outings having been cancelled over the past six months.

"They are taking all the precautions and have given strict instructions to all attending."

It is hoped there will be 10 heats, a reverse running race, a "ladies only" event and a 4x4 race, as well as a winner-takes-all grand finale over 10 laps for all cars that are fired up and able to go.
