Energy firm Whirlwind Renewables is keen to ensure as many people as possible gain from its Achlachan Wind Farm community benefit package.

The company established a community fund for groups to apply to and also committed to make an annual direct payment to residents living within 4km of the wind farm, which was completed last year off the Causewaymire road.

An initial mailshot went to around 100 properties and respondents received payments (one per household) last June. In the run-up to this year’s payment, Whirlwind Renewables is keen to maximise the number of households involved in the process so has engaged local renewable energy consultancy Caithness Renewables to contact residents about them receiving annual payments which will run for the lifetime of the wind farm.

Caithness Renewables can be contacted at business@caithnessrenewables.co.uk or on 07776225549 or at 10 Sinclair Street, Thurso, KW14 7AJ by qualifying residents who wish to register. This should be done by June 12 at the latest to be sure of securing the payments.
