A local endometriosis support group will be staging the most northerly event during Endo March by holding a walk at John O'Groats.

Endo March is an event that takes place worldwide this month to raise awareness of the condition which is believed to affect one in 10 women of reproductive age in the UK.

The local walk is scheduled to set off from the iconic John O'Groat's signpost on Saturday, March 26, at 1pm. The Mackays Hotel, Wick, has also lit up in yellow to show support for Endometriosis Action Month.

The Endometriosis UK North a Highland Support Group was set up just over a year ago and now has over 145 members and is a friendly, welcoming community.

Kirsteen Campbell, who started the group in January 2021 and has now gone on to work with Endometriosis UK, said: "I am delighted that we are able to bring a endometriosis awareness march to the far north. Traditionally they take place in the cities.

"We have seen the local support group grow in area as well as members which shows a local demand. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us and we will get a great turnout."

The group hopes to raise the profile of endometriosis and help tackle some of the stigmas attached to the condition.

Rebecca Wymer who has taken over the lead of the local group explained that the event, a gentle walk along the shore path at John O'Groats, was free and open to all ages, with dogs also welcome.

She said: "Wearing something yellow is encouraged – endometriosis awareness colour – but optional. We have lots of fabulous raffle prizes for the day and businesses/individuals have been so generous."

Cakes, bakes and coffee will be available at Stacks on the day.
