Dunnet is playing host to a weekend of Celtic rock with the first Tunes By the Dunes festival.

Skerryvore and Tidelines will be topping the bill and will be joined by others such as Whisky, Blue Ridge and Trail West.

Co-promoter Iain Mackay is expecting a bumper crowd.

He said: "We have virtually sold out. I would say that out of the 1000 tickets we put up on sale, there are only about 15 left.

"This is the first time we have put this show on. A group of us thought that since everywhere else in Scotland has a music festival of some sort, why not stage one here?

"Two local football clubs, Thurso and Pentland United formed a committee to raise funds and the idea of a music festival came about.

"Booking bands to play was not a big issue as we already had a relationship with some of the bands.

"The bands booked are on the Celtic music scene – or 'Jock rock' as some people call it.

"Once the top two acts were secured [Skerryvore and Tidelines] the rest of the bill slotted into place.

"In fact we were quite lucky to get Skerryvore. They've been very busy with tours in the US and UK.

"After they finish their performance on the dunes, they'll be travelling over night to Glasgow Airport to catch an early morning flight to Spain where they'll be playing a gig in Bilbao later on that day."

For anyone hoping not to miss out, the few remaining tickets can be bought for £65 which covers both Friday and Saturday. For tickets call Iain on 07702 999170 or his co-promoter William Davidson on 07585 533899. Additional information can be viewed on the festival's Facebook page.
