A Thurso man has been banned from driving for six months for driving without a licence and insurance.

Samuel Boyce was criticised by Sheriff Andrew Berry for dragging his heels over his plea.

The 29-year-old changed his plea to guilty and admitted a 'shocking' record of failing to comply with court orders when he appeared at Wick Sheriff Court last week.

He was fined £300 and incurred nine penalty points, which took him over the 12 points permitted limit, triggering the ban.

Sheriff Berry took him to task about the length of time involved to bring the case to a close.

He told Boyce, of Cruives House, Thurso: "It has taken many weeks and multi-court dates to get to this stage. The case started in December and you contributed little to its resolution until today."

The insurance offence occurred in Moorside Court, Thurso, on November 6 and police officers also discovered the accused had no licence on November 29, in the town's Millbank Road.

Boyce was warned about the potentially serious consequences of driving while disqualified.
